Are you coming to Trier as a pilgrim?

 The Holy Robe

The Holy Robe

Welcome!

Trier Cathedral with its most precious relic, the Holy Robe, enshrines a traditional place of pilgrimage within its walls, the goal of pilgrims to the Holy Robe pilgrimages which occur at great intervals (most recently 1996). Trier Cathedral also attracts thousands of the faithful to Trier for the annual Holy Robe Days.

The second important pilgrimage is to the grave of the Apostle Matthias in the church of St. Matthias’ Abbey. Especially during the weeks around Ascension Day, many pilgrims come here, mostly organized in brotherhoods, often many days on foot. The abbey monks and the members of the archbrotherhood of the Apostle Matthias care for the pilgrims there.

But Trier is also a city on the way to the pilgrims’ road to Santiago de Compostela in far western Spain and to Rome. Since 2003, the newly founded Trier St. James’s Brotherhood has cared for these pilgrims.

You as pilgrim can find helpful information and links on this page.
